Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K is not just a video camera, but a professional technique for creating Hollywood-quality films. A truly artistic level of the image is achieved through the use of the BlackmagicRAW codec and a wide dynamic range, providing accurate transmission of skin tone and excellent natural colors in any conditions, including in low light.
High Resolution Digital Cinema
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K generates 4096 x 2160 and 6144 x 3456 pixels, respectively. In each case, a dynamic range of 13 steps and two basic ISO values with an upper limit of 25,600 provide excellent results in both bright and low light conditions. It has a large Super35 sensor, allowing you to get extremely shallow depth of field and apply anamorphic lenses. Up to 60 fps is supported at full resolution and up to 120 fps in matrix restricted mode. Another advantage is the latest fourth-generation Blackmagic color rendering technology, which is used on the most expensive digital movie cameras.
Extremely Detailed HDR Image
The coverage of tones between the lightest and darkest areas is called the dynamic range. On Blackmagic Pocket Cinema models, it is 13 steps and guarantees a cinematic image with higher detail in areas of light and shadow, so even when shooting indoors, objects outside the window will be clearly visible in bright sunshine. The range of material shot is much wider than the requirements of the DCI-P3 format used for art paintings.
Two basic ISO settings for high-quality shooting in low light
Using the ISO parameter, the sensitivity of the matrix to light is determined. Two basic ISO values with the possibility of increasing to 25,600 allow you to get frames with low digital noise while maintaining all stages of the dynamic range. The ISO 400 setting is designed for shooting in the movie pavilion, while the ISO 3200 is ideal for dark places. When switching ISO, the gain mode is automatically selected, which guarantees high-quality material in any environment, including when there is no time to install lamps and lanterns.
Resolution and frame rate
On this 6K model, video can be recorded at a frequency of 50 fps and a resolution of 6144 x 3456 16: 9; 60 fps 6144 x 2560 2.4: 1 or 60 fps 5744 x 3024 17: 9, as well as 60 fps in 3.7K 3624 x 3020 in this anamorphic 6: 5 format with the corresponding lens. At 120 fps, the matrix can be switched to limited mode and shoot at 2.8K 2868 x 1512 17: 9.
Quick Post Processing Formats
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras record using standard open formats, so you don’t have to spend time on transcoding. The resulting files are compatible with all video editing software products, including the DaVinci Resolve Studio application. It also supports saving 10-bit video in the Apple Pro Res codec up to 4K and 12-bit material in the rapidly gaining popularity BlackmagicRAW format with a resolution of up to 6K.
Compatible with SD/UHS-II and CFast 2.0 cards
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema models have a USB-C port for external storage, as well as the ability to use SD, UHS-II, and CFast memory cards for internal recording.
5-inch display for quick focus
The back of the case is a bright 5 ‑ inch touch screen. In size, it is comparable to the Blackmagic VideoAssist monitor-recorder, allowing you to crop and accurately set focus without using an external viewfinder. The display can be used not only when setting up the camera using the menu, but also for displaying service parameters, status and histograms, displaying frames and signal levels, highlighting image outlines and controlling playback. The models of the line also support working with three-dimensional LUT tables for applying a particular color scheme, not only while viewing the material, but also when recording it.
Fourth Generation Color Technology
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema lineup models support fourth-generation color rendering technology. It allows in each frame to achieve complete realism and reliably convey the tonality of the skin. It is based on a comprehensive gamma distribution curve designed to collect an extended amount of information about the areas of light and shadow with a depth of 12 bits. In combination with the BlackmagicRAW codec, this method of processing ensures the preservation of metadata. They can be used at the post-production stage, so that when grading in the DaVinci Resolve Studio application, you get a natural image of a cinematic level.
Bodykit connectors
Despite the small form factor, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema lineup models make it possible to monitor and use external sound. They have a full-sized HDMI interface that allows you to output HDR ‑ material and 10 ‑ bit signal. With it, on the screen of a conventional display or TV, you can view a clear video or image with service parameters. The cameras also have a MiniXLR connector with 48 V phantom power for additional equipment, a 3.5 mm jack for microphones, a headphone port and a power input for connecting to a DC power source. There is also a USB-C port for recording to external drives.
Ability to use 3D LUT tables
Digital footage is often recorded in a logarithmic color space to preserve the full breadth of the dynamic range. This video is best suited for subsequent grading, but when displayed, it has low contrast. Three-dimensional LUT tables eliminate this problem and allow you to see on the screen how the image will look during processing. They can be used for monitoring purposes, as well as written to .braw files for use in the post-production phase. Models of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema line support standard 3D tables with the .cube extension based on 17 and 33 coordinate points, as well as built-in ones, such as ExtendedVideo, FilmtoVideo, Filmto Rec.2020, etc.
Still image with a resolution of 21.2 megapixels
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema line allows you to create not only video, but also photos. The cameras have a special button with which you can get a static image with a resolution of 21.2 megapixels. It is saved as an uncompressed DNG file and, due to its exceptional quality, is suitable for use in printed materials. The presence of freeze frames ensures the consistency of the visual row during operation. In addition, they are easy to submit for approval to the customer outside the set.
