The combination of high-quality raw video in a compact camera body - RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC2 BRAIN with a GEMINI 5K S35 sensor. This camera is part of the 2018 DSMC2 Unified Line and has been designed specifically for professionals. Since the DSMC2 form factor is standard, accessories from RED and other manufacturers can be easily attached and used.
REDCODE RAW is a format for DSMC2 cameras. The universal raw RED codec uses special compression to reduce data transfer rates while maintaining lossless image rendering. This efficient codec can be edited in many available NLE programs without re-encoding, although if you prefer a proxy workflow, ProRes or DNx files can be written to MINI-MAG media at the same time. Lowering the recording resolution allows the sensor to capture a higher frame rate for an impressive slow motion.
5K GEMINI S35 Sensor
The GEMINI 5K Super 35mm sensor has a dual sensitivity mode. Use the standard mode for normal shooting scenarios and switch to low light mode to increase sensitivity, but without the increased noise level normally found in post-processing.
REDCODE RAW
The cornerstone of the RED workflow is the robust REDCODE RAW file format. Using compression in ratios from 2: 1 to 22: 1, REDCODE RAW offers the versatility of raw files without undue storage requirements for uncompressed image data.
Apple ProRes and Avid DNx Formats
Apple ProRes or Avid DNx formats can be recorded in 4K and 2K resolution directly on the MINI-MAG built-in media. Since these video files can be recorded with unprocessed files, additional time is not required to transcode the proxy. Add the decomposed files directly to NLE and start editing.
The camera is also equipped with two independent SDI ports, an additional monitor output, genlock, time code and XLR sound, and is equipped with everything necessary for a long process of real film production.
